On March 8th, Andrea Kopshever was honored as an Educator of the Year for the California League of Schools. Andrea is an 8th grade Language Arts/Social Studies teacher at Edna Hill Middle School. She is witty, professional, dedicated, positively forthcoming, wickedly intelligent, collaborative, enthusiastic, innovative, and exactly what our students need. Andrea embraces district initiatives and she never hesitates to help her peers in growing in their craft regarding teaching strategies and best practices. From the Formative Assessment Process, to Academic Language, to Learning Targets to Second Step, she dives in and learns how to best provide our students with what may help them in being successful middle school students ready for the world. I can always count on Andrea to incorporate the new ideas into her learning and help her peers navigate new teachings as well. The environment she has created in her teaching space feels appropriate, calm, and safe. Our students in her class can be themselves and she meets them exactly where they are. This has allowed Andrea to move mountains when it comes to her students’ successes. It is always a treat to see her in action because she exudes her passion for teaching and you can feel her heart for her profession as she interacts and moves about her room helping her students grow and expand their learning. #WeareBUSD
