A friendly reminder that the Brentwood Union School District invites our community to join us for a Celebration of Life honoring Dr. J. Douglas Adams, longtime BUSD Superintendent and namesake of Adams Middle School.

Doug dedicated his life to the students, employees, and families of Brentwood. A graduate of Brentwood schools himself, he went on to lead BUSD through a remarkable period of growth while never losing sight of the relationships and sense of community that make our district special.

His impact can still be felt throughout BUSD today, in the schools he helped build, the people he mentored, and the generations of students and staff whose lives he touched.

Please join us as we come together to remember Doug and celebrate his life and lasting legacy.

Learning in action at Adams Middle School!

In Language Arts, students are exploring the powerful question, “How are people changed through their relationships and experiences?” Through reading, discussion, and reflection, they’re connecting literature to the ways our own experiences shape who we become.

Meanwhile, 6th graders in Ms. Diaz, Mrs. Bartling, and Mr. McKnight’s math classes are learning about integers and applying positive and negative numbers to real-world situations.

Meaningful learning, thoughtful connections, and real-world application are happening across AMS! 💛🖤 #WeareBUSD

At Brentwood Union School District, we believe our schools and offices should be welcoming, safe, and productive places for students, families, and staff.

The BUSD Board of Trustees has adopted a Commitment to Civility to establish consistent expectations for respectful and productive interactions throughout our school community. Because students learn from the adults around them, we all share a responsibility to model the kindness, patience, and constructive communication we want to see in them.

Our commitment includes:

• Speaking respectfully
• Listening to understand
• Assuming positive intent
• Focusing on solutions
• Supporting productive interactions
• Maintaining a safe and welcoming environment

Disagreements may occur, but conversations should remain focused on working together to resolve concerns and support positive outcomes for students.

Thank you for partnering with us to ensure every member of the BUSD community feels safe, supported, and valued.

Welcome Back TO SChool

At its July 15 meeting, the Board of Education recognized Jon Novero upon his retirement and expressed its sincere appreciation for his many years of service to the Brentwood Union School District.

A former BUSD student, Jon played an important role in the District’s Measure B construction program through his work with RGM & Associates, later RGM Kramer and now Cumming Group, a construction and project management firm. He helped lead the construction of Isaac Montañez Elementary School, among many other important projects throughout the District. This project was especially meaningful because Jon was also once a student of Mr. Isaac Montañez.

Although Jon worked for an outside firm, he consistently approached every project as a dedicated member of the Brentwood community and a trusted partner of the District. He always advocated for BUSD and its students, and we are forever grateful for his commitment, leadership, and lasting contributions to our schools.

Congratulations on your retirement, Jon!
