Boundary Change
We are very excited to open our newest school in the Brentwood Union School District for the 2024-2025 school year!
We have gone through an extensive process over the past school year in regards to changing boundaries in order to create a school that is balanced and meets the high expectations we have come to expect of our Brentwood Union School District schools.
We have held community meetings at all the schools affected, sent newsletters, dialers, and texts. Additionally, we have collected emails and communications, posted all information to our website, as well as presented at multiple board meetings. Our BUSD School Board truly wanted to make sure our community voices had been heard.
In May, the Board officially finalized boundaries for our new school. These boundary changes affect students currently attending Brentwood Elementary, Pioneer Elementary, Mary Casey Black Elementary and Marsh Creek Elementary Schools.
A map of the new boundaries can be found here: Board adopted new boundary map.
Additionally, our Board decided the following for the 2024-2025 school year only:
5th grade students, who are affected by the boundary change and would like to stay at their current school, will be prioritized for an intradistrict transfer to remain at that school. However they must apply for an intradistrict transfer during Open Enrollment 1 (OE1) which is January 10 - March 1, 2024.
Students who are currently attending Pioneer and live in the triangle east of Minnesota, and would like to attend Marsh Creek, will be prioritized for an intradistrict transfer to attend that school. However they must apply for an intradistrict transfer during OEI which is January 10 - March 1, 2024.
All students are eligible to request a transfer. These transfers will be granted based on space availability. The intra district transfer form will be available on the BUSD District website under Student Services, intradistrict transfers. All schools will send reminders about the transfer timeline in late fall.
We appreciate our community's support as we open our 13th school in Brentwood! Please reach out to your school site or one of us if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Chris Calabrese, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources

Frequently Asked Questions
My child currently attends a school that is affected by the boundary change but is on an approved intra-district transfer to another school; do I need to complete an intradistrict transfer to remain at the current school site? YES. Complete an intradistrict transfer during OE1 and submit to your current school site.
What grades will Ike Montañez Elementary (IME) open with? TK-5. It has the capacity to be a TK-8, but this is not the plan for the foreseeable future.
Will the new school have before and after school care? YES. We will ask for requests for proposals, and a before and after school care will be selected. Additionally, an ELOP program for qualifying students will be available after school until 6:00 pm.
I missed the March 1, 2024 deadline to submit an intradistrict transfer for my current 4th grade student/incoming 5th grade students. Can I still submit a transfer request? Yes, you can submit a transfer in the second window, March 2, 2024 through May 1, 2024. However, intradistrict transfer priority for current 4th grade/incoming 5th grade students is only during the first window, January 10-March 1, 2024.
My student has an IEP and is receiving Special Education Services. Do I need to submit an intradistrict transfer request? YES and NO. Students who are receiving ISP services and enrolled in a general education classroom will need to fill out an intradistrict transfer request if they do not want to attend IME. Students who are enrolled in a Learning Center or Special Day Class do not need to submit a request, as their placement will not change
