Yesterday was a big win for Harvest Grove! ⚽
We hosted our very first soccer class — and it was a huge success! 🎉

Students of all ages came together for warm-ups, drills, and for some, their very first experience kicking a soccer ball. Watching their excitement, teamwork, and growth on the field was truly inspiring.

A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Elseth and Ms. Weakley for making this possible. Your dedication is creating meaningful opportunities for our students — and it shows!

They dove into concepts like value, highlights, and positive vs. negative space — all while getting hands-on with color theory by mixing primary colors to create beautiful secondary shades. We had a blast celebrating the season with our amazing community! From painting pumpkins and crafting with corn husks to face painting and leaf rubbings — the smiles say it all. 🎃✨

Harvest Grove students had a magical time stepping into the wizarding world at the Potter in the Park event put on by the City of Brentwood — from Azkaban wanted posters to crafting spells and exploring spooky potions, it was a day straight out of Hogwarts! ⚡🕷️📜

Today, students created still life drawings using a seasonal arrangement of pumpkins, gourds, and colorful donuts. They practiced observing how light and shadow interact with different textures and shapes, helping them create a stronger sense of depth and dimension in their 2D artwork.

This hands-on activity allowed students to strengthen their observational drawing skills while experimenting with contrast and form.

Harvest Grove Virtual Academy Student Shines at National Vocabulary Bee!

We are proud to share that Maurya, a Harvest Grove Virtual Academy (Brentwood Unified School District) student, has earned 2nd place at the National North South Foundation (NSF) Nationals 2025 Vocabulary Bee, held at the University of Texas at Dallas. Nearly more than 100 top students from grades 4–8 across the USA competed in this prestigious event.

The NSF Vocabulary Bee is recognized in the spelling bee community as one of the most challenging competitions, comparable to the vocabulary round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Maurya battled fiercely for 1st place against an 8th grader in an intense three-round tie-breaker, ultimately securing 2nd place, a trophy, and a $500 cash prize.

Congratulations, Maurya, on your incredible achievement and for representing Harvest Grove Virtual Academy & BUSD on the national stage!

HGVA Middle School students came together again today for Community Circles, taking time to connect, engage, and gain deeper insight into themselves and one another.

We had a fantastic first day of school! Families met with teachers and picked up materials, then students joined their classes for Community Circles—an activity we'll use all year to build connection and community. Parents also heard from staff and enjoyed a brief presentation from our Parent Club. GO HEDGEHOGS!

Harvest Grove students consistently demonstrate exceptional dedication to their studies, showing remarkable resilience and strength along the way. Through both challenges and triumphs, they continue to shine and inspire, embodying the very qualities we hope to see in all our learners.
